"Handsome Books for Sad Intellectuals": Lightholder Books

After starting as a volunteer at the library donation bin during the pandemic while slowly growing her personal collection, Jane Liddle created Lightholder Books. Specializing in fiction, philosophy, nature and women in translation, Liddle’s inventory is sold in multiple antique malls like the Newburgh (NY) Vintage Emporium Warehouse, Bilbo.com, an online storefront and her Instagram, @lightholder_books which prides itself on offering “Handsome Books for Sad Intellectuals.”

Liddle’s background in books goes beyond selling as she has previously worked as a freelance copywriter, at Inquiring Minds Bookstore, in publishing at St. Martin’s Press as well as Tor and Forge.

“I have a good eye and I like researching,” she said about her journey to discovering book dealing and building her presence both online and in person in the market.

At the Northampton Book Fair, Liddle will have an American first edition of A Pale View of Hills, first editions of literature by Gertrude Stein, works for sale by Grozdana Olujik, Magda Szabo, as well as a variety of other Eastern European novelists.

Liddle also writes fiction herself, is an avid reader, hiker and recent puppy parent. These books and much more, will be available at the Northampton Community Arts Trust on November 22nd and 23rd located at 33 Hawley Street.
